Tabe: Chef Li Zhou Brings Innovative Asian Fusion and Approachable Omakase to Ann Arbor!

We are excited to highlight Tabe, the new Asian fusion restaurant in downtown Ann Arbor and a proud addition to the 168 Group, where Head Chef Li Zhou is crafting an extraordinary culinary experience! Opened in March at 209 S. Main St., Tabe offers a vibrant blend of Asian flavors with modern twists, all within a beautifully designed three-story space.

Chef Li Zhou's passion for infusing unique flavors and educating diners about Asian cultures is at the heart of Tabe's menu. Among the early favorites are the braised beef short ribs with wasabi mashed potatoes – a delicious "accident" from years ago that made its way onto the official menu – as well as the crispy pan-fried whole branzino and the customer-favorite Thai basil flank steak.

Tabe offers distinct dining experiences on each floor:

  • First Floor: Features a diverse array of Asian-fusion dishes.
  • Second Floor: Presents an elevated Omakase experience. Chef Zhou, drawing from his New York background, is committed to making this multi-course Japanese dining style more affordable and approachable in Ann Arbor, while still serving the freshest fish flown directly from Japan. Omakase menus, ranging from seven to twelve courses (priced from approximately $60 to $120), change every few weeks to incorporate unique seasonal ingredients like sea urchins and geoducks.
  • Third Floor: Reserved for private events, offering a sophisticated setting overlooking the second-floor action.

Beyond the main courses, Tabe also offers a wide selection of salads, soups, rice, noodles, and delectable desserts like freshly made mochi ice cream and tiramisu. The restaurant also boasts a curated list of Asian specialty drinks, including rare Japanese whiskey and premium sakes.

Chef Zhou's dedication is to offer authentic Asian dishes while continuously introducing new, exciting flavors that keep customers coming back. Tabe is more than just a meal; it's an invitation to explore and appreciate the rich diversity of Asian cuisine in a welcoming and artful environment.

Tabe is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
